SUMMARY:Capital Chapter/PNW Chapter Joint Event
DESCRIPTION:Q4 SPARK: HORIZONS\n\n\n\nQ4 Spark: Horizons: Workplace Innovation in Ever Changing Waters \nA Hybrid Event\nOctober 14\, 2021 | 9:30am – 3:00pm Pacific \nVirtual Platform: Performedia \nJoin the PCMA Capital Chapter on October 14th. Where people work and how well they work (remotely or together) is just the tip of the iceberg as we navigate the yet-uncharted waters. How would you prefer to be sailing into 2022? Let’s start the new journey across the waters by fostering an innovative workplace. When leadership cultivates the intelligence\, skills\, and passion of everyone in the organization – everybody creates\, everybody is connected\, and everybody contributes. Our Q4 Spark will highlight three paths of innovation in the workplace for the hospitality industry in a ever-changing environment: \n\nRefocus on employee engagement and culture – As the COVID vaccine takes hold\, and workplaces ramp back up\, employers will need to reconnect with employees to gauge the level of engagement.\nHeightened diversity and inclusion focus – Now is the time to improve multicultural competence\, evaluate and expand training\, include millennials in the discussions\, and rethink the interview process.\nThe gig economy will continue to grow – The gig economy can translate into cost savings for employee benefits\, office space\, and overhead\, while bringing skills and competency to the organization.\n\nRegistration Fees:\nVirtual PNW Member:  $20.00 \nVirtual PNW non-member:  $35.00 \nTentative Agenda \n9:30 AM            Registration Opens \n9:45–10:30 AM   Capital Connections\nThis is not just another cheesy networking reception. Okay\, maybe it’s a little cheesy. We are partnering with The Boards for our first ever Capital Connections opening networking event at Spark on October 14. We are kicking off our last Spark event of the year with a curated forum for everyone to get to know each other better\, learn about important updates from the chapter\, and more. Our in-person audience at The Garden in Alexandria\, Virginia will get to personally experience a delicious assortment of personal gourmet charcuterie and the virtual audience on the Performedia platform will join in for tips and tutorials on building your perfect board at home from Travis Peterson\, President and Co-Founder of The Boards himself. Come prepared to learn\, exchange ideas\, and have some fun! \n10:30–11:30 AM     Opening Keynote: Candid Conversation: New Leadership – New Direction\nWe will have a candid and fun question guided conversation with our guest\, Michelle Mason. We will also solicit audience participation with questions and polling tools. As the conversation flows\, so will the questions. Our conversation will be around: \n– The importance of DEI as it relates to innovation and creativity.\n– Innovative practices she used in previous position.\n– Innovative practices she plans to use in her current position to improve employee engagement and shift the workplace culture to be one that can be successful in the new work environment. \n11:30-11:45 AM     Networking Break \n11:45–12:30 PM     Workplace Innovation Panel: Fostering an Inclusive Company Culture\nAs event planners and marketers we have a social responsibility to make sure that the experiences and content we curate foster inclusivity and reflect the diverse backgrounds\, areas of interest\, and lived experiences of our consumers. To do this\, we must first make sure that we are arming our teams with the insights\, tools\, and support needed to feel empowered to do so. Join us as we share our story on how we leverage our company culture and business practices to #MakeItMeanMore for employees and clients. \nSpeakers:\nNoelle Alexandra: Director\, Employee Experience\, RedPeg Marketing\nTaren Tennessee : Director\, Venues and Sponsorship\, RedPeg Marketing \n12:30–12:45 PM    Networking Break \n12:45–1:30 PM     Innovation Case Studies\nTo get ahead\, every organization needs to find a unique angle to keep up with outside change. Innovation is never easy – and if you want to make a major leap forward\, you need to understand that it’s a messy\, unpredictable\, serendipitous process. Successful innovation is about learning from your mistakes\, persisting when the going gets tough\, rethinking your tactics in the face of disruption. It can even involve luck. To inspire you to think differently about innovation\, we bring you three innovation case studies: examples of teams that have done things their own way. \nRegistration closes October 12th at 5pm! \nThis session is eligible for 4.5 CE credits

SUMMARY:Drag Queen Trivia presented by PCMA PNW and Visit Seattle
DESCRIPTION:Drag Queen Trivia \nWhat’s saucy\, cheap\, and liked by everyone? Well\, Vel Veeta of course! \nOriginally from the bustling\, sophisticated metropolis of Reno NV\, Vel moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2019 in search of opportunities\, a change in scenery\, and humidity (hello to no more lotion!) Since relocating\, Vel has fallen in love with the local drag scene and performed throughout the region in Seattle\, Tacoma\, Bellingham\, and Oak Harbor. Despite her jet setter lifestyle\, Vel’s favorite venue is her living room\, filming content for digital drag shows (thanks COVID!) \nVel is a nutritious mix of glam\, camp\, heart\, and stupidity. Now\, Vel’s style is a very eclectic mix. Imagine you have a cauldron. You throw in equal parts Thierry Mugler\, Good Will\, and Bob Mackie. Add a shot of tequila and a hit of poppers and BOOM- there you go! Vel likes cracking jokes but doesn’t think she will ever do stand up comedy (it requires too much leg strength). When it comes to dancing? Watch out. When Vel sees a dancefloor\, her signature “coordinated flailing” move is sure to come out. And let’s just say it’s a show stopper (mostly because security has to stop the show to remove her from the dance floor.) \nOutside of drag\, Vel’s hobbies include interior design\, growing plants\, hiking and watching really trashy reality TV shows. \nVel is so excited to be your host for this year’s Day of Diversity Drag Queen Trivia! Feel free to follow her on social media (Instagram: @vel_veeta) She is always open for booking opportunities! No seriously\, please book her. COVID has been pretty difficult for drag entertainers. \nRemember to take your Lactaid! \nPRESENTED BY:

SUMMARY:Shrimp N Grits N All That Shi* with WhereYaAtMatt
DESCRIPTION:  \nWe are thrilled to welcome Matthew Lewis\, Chef and Host of WhereYaAtMatt\, to the PCMA PNW virtual stage! Chef Matt will be sharing his incredible BBQ Shrimp recipe\, while we interview him on his unique journey\, what direction he sees the food and beverage industry going\, and how we – event professionals – can better support Black-owned businesses\, like WhereYaAtMatt\, through our events. \nAbout Matthew: \n \nGrowing up in New Orleans\, Matthew was always happy to help his mom and grandmother in the kitchen. Standing on a stool so that he could see over the counter\, he learned a lot of the traditional Creole dishes such as gumbo\, jambalaya\, and étouffée. One of his favorite memories was going fishing with his grandfather and dad and coming back home and having a good ol’ southern fish fry. These simple delicacies have added flavor to his life and inspired him to share his passion by teaching others that cooking can be easy and fun and that anyone can do it. \nAfter graduating from the CIA\, Matthew worked at The Four Seasons Hotel in Seattle\, WA; Scott Staples of Restaurant Zoe\, a premier Northwest restaurant; Canlis\, a landmark Seattle restaurant and the birthplace of Northwest Cuisine; and Toulouse Petit. \nMatthew is a loving father\, and regularly tests his recipes through dinner parties and church auctions\, reaching out to the Seattle community sharing his knowledge and love for cooking.

SUMMARY:April Education Program - Spokane
DESCRIPTION:Becoming Trusted: Building Trust In Our Increasingly Skeptical World \nTrust is the foundation of human relationships and the key to success in today’s business environment. Yet\, as a society\, we are in a crisis of trust on a global scale. To become trusted today\, you now must first prove that you are worthy of trust. But how? \nDrawing on more than sixty years of research in cognitive science and consumer behavior\, this engaging and insightful presentation uncovers the hidden truths behind the often-misunderstood concept of trust. It explains exactly how people form trusting relationships and why the conventional approach to building trust actually makes it harder to become trusted in our modern world. You’ll discover practical tips and strategies to quickly become trusted with others so you can perform and lead at your best. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nUnderstand how trust has changed in our society and how this change affects the way trust now works\n Learn exactly what trust is (and what it’s not) and why we often unintentionally make it harder for others to trust us\nDiscover the process people use to assess another’s trustworthiness and how you can make it easier (and quicker!) for others to give you credit for being trustworthy\n\nKevin Sanders has spent more than 25 years in marketing\, including senior-level roles and consulting in financial services\, hospitality\, higher education\, high tech\, healthcare\, and foodservice. He is currently the CMO for a technology startup. Kevin believes trust is the foundation of all great companies\, organizations and institutions. However\, he also believes that trust is at an all-time low in our culture\, society and in our world. In this new world where skepticism is now the default\, businesses need to prove trustworthiness if they want to attract clients and thrive in our current society.\n \n  \n \n  \nEVENT DETAILS\nThursday\, April 18th\n11:30am -1:30pm \nDavenport Grand Hotel\nSpokane\, WA \nAGENDA\n11:30am – Registration/Networking\n12:00pm – Lunch\n12:30pm – Presentation\n1:30pm – Conclusion \nREGISTRATION\nMeeting Planners – $25.00\nMembers – $50.00\nNon-Members – $65.00\nStudents – Complimentary *Valid Student ID Required \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \nCMP Approval:\nEarn 1.0 clock hour toward your CMP certification or re-certification by attending this Education Session.  Credits will appear in your Events Industry Council Profile. \n  \nMeeting Planner Travel Stipend Available\nGuidelines: \n\nMax reimbursement is $150.00.\nMust be a Meeting Planner that is a PCMA Member.\nOne planner per a company/org will qualify\, if funds are still available others from the same company/org could be considered.\nPlanner must be registered for the program.
